The detectives working in Allonnia’s labs have discovered naturally occurring bacterium with an affinity to derive their energy from 1,4-dioxane — metabolizing it into just water and carbon dioxide and rendering it completely harmless.

These incredible bacteria are a breakthrough discovery, but alone not enough; they must be deployed in an engineered solution where the contamination is located.

Allonnia’s engineers have developed and tested the 1,4 D-Stroy system — designed to deliver billions of these hero bacteria precisely into plumes of 1,4-dioxane contamination at contaminated sites.

Working directly with Allonnia or one of our distribution partners, it’s efficient and convenient to operate 1,4 D-Stroy on-site to deliver the required volume of bacteria directly into contaminated groundwater at prescribed depths and intervals.

The 1,4 D-Stroy solution leverages a reusable vessel that is delivered on-site for quick, precise dosing directly into underground contamination; typically in one dose.


The bacteria in the 1,4 D-Stroy solution is naturally occurring and, with its 1,4-dioxane energy source exhausted, the bacteria fade away to leave a clean site for the billions of other bacteria already there.

1,4 D-Stroy offers a safe and efficient method for degrading 1,4-dioxane, a chemical widely used for industrial chemical processes. Using highly specialized microbes in situ or ex situ, our solution breaks down 1,4-dioxane into harmless byproducts, minimizing environmental risks.

Groundwater & surface water

1,4-dioxane is highly mobile in groundwater often causing large plumes where the contaminant is resistant to natural degradation. A proven solution, 1,4 D-Stroy introduces a natural organism to halt migration of the contaminated plume, consuming the 1,4-dioxane and converting it into non-toxic substances.
